DISCUSSION IN ARABIC LANGUAGE (Lecturer Speech Acts in Arabic Language Learning Interactions At UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi)

Abstract


This study aims to describe the type and function of speech acts and lecturer language in the interaction of learning Arabic at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. Where in the classroom, the lecturer, as someone who has an important role in the teaching and learning process, always uses speech as a medium to convey ideas to students. Lecturers are also expected to function as active communicators in Arabic lectures. The interaction that is built by lecturers and students is inseparable from the speech act. In this study, researchers used a qualitative approach. Research data in the form of lecturer utterances in Arabic learning interactions were obtained from Arabic lecturers at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. Data collection was performed using non-participant observation techniques. The main instrument is the researcher. Mechanical devices and stationery are positioned as data collection aids. Data analysis includes (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, (3) data collection/verification results. Based on the findings in this study, it can be explained that in learning Arabic, lecturers use five types of speech acts in Arabic learning interactions at Islamic University Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, namely directive, assertive, commissive, expressive, and declarative acts. Types of directive speech acts occupy a dominant role, then followed by assertive, comissive, expressive, and declarative. Based on the focus of the speech, locus, illocution, and perlocution speech acts are used. Locutionary speech acts are used to inform something. Illocutionary speech acts that occur are classified into assertive, directive, expressive, comissive, and declarative acts. Verbal interactions that occur also cannot be separated from the perlocutionary act of speech, because perlocutionary speech act intended to influence the opposite speech. While in terms of strategy, several types of speech acts are used. While in terms of the speech act illocutionary function of lecturers (Leech), there are social functions and educational functions. Social functions consist of four categories, (1) competitive functions, (2 )convivial functions, (3) collaborative functions, (4) conflictive functions . While the educational function of lecturer speech acts consists of nine types, namely (1) giving a positive impression of the material, (2) directing focus, (3) inclusive learning situations, (4) exclusive learning situations, (5) expressing specific things, (6) encourage students to build conclusions (8) control the learning situation (9) provide motivation to students. Based on these results it can be concluded that the lecturers' speech acts besides dealing with social problems are also related to learning objectives.
