Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism Policy

The prevention of plagiarism is essential as it upholds scientific and academic integrity. Therefore, Al-Ta'lim Journal is committed to deterrence and prevention of plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

Screening for Plagiarism

All submitted manuscripts to Al-Ta'lim Journal will be screened for plagiarism before entering the peer-review process. Al-Ta'lim Journal utilizes Turnitin / iThenticate software to check and control plagiarism concerns.

  • Maximum Similarity Rate: To be accepted for the peer-review stage, a manuscript must have a similarity index of a maximum of 20% (excluding the references/bibliography section and direct quotes).
  • If a manuscript shows a similarity index higher than 20%, the managing editor will return the article to the author(s) for rewriting/paraphrasing or reject the submission depending on the severity of the overlap.

Types of Plagiarism Identified

Authors must ensure the originality of their work and be fully aware of the following forms of scientific misconduct:

  1. Word-for-Word Plagiarism (Direct Copying): Occurs when an author copies text from another source verbatim without using quotation marks and without proper citation.
  2. Substantial Plagiarism: Occurs when an author reproduces a substantial part of another writer’s work (ideas, figures, tables, or structural arguments) without proper attribution, infringing upon intellectual property rights.
  3. Paraphrased / Idea Plagiarism Without Source: Occurs when an author paraphrases another author’s ideas, theories, or formulations without citing the original source.
  4. Self-Plagiarism and Duplicate Publication: Occurs when an author publishes an article that reuses significant parts of their own previously published work without disclosure or proper acknowledgment. When drawing upon one's own previous works, the new work must demonstrate a meaningful academic contribution beyond the original publication.

Actions Against Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected after publication, Al-Ta'lim Journal will conduct an investigation in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Depending on the severity:

  • The article may be subject to a formal retraction (Retraction Notice).
  • The author(s) may be barred from submitting future manuscripts to Al-Ta'lim Journal.
